Banjingzi site is located in Yangyuan county in Hebei province. The site was dated to around 90 ka BP,which is in Marine Isotope Stage 5(MIS 5),a relatively warm period in Quaternary.During the excavation in 2015,9493 pieces of animal fossils unearthed from Layer 5.In this paper, based on the information of anatomy, taxonomy, weathering condition, and mortality profiles,we conclude two main results:1.human modification of animal bones are significant, and the natural process had few effects on the assemblage;2.The horse is the dominant prey, and its mature individuals are the focus of hunting, indicating that ancient humans preferred larger prey. This is similar to the behavior of ancient humans in the western Eurasia during MIS 5.Based on the results of zooarchaeological studies on the Xujiayao-Houjiayao and Lingjing sites,we suggest that there was a specialized hunting behavior in North China around MIS 5.
