Triphenylamine based fluorescent probe for the detection of water in organic solvents
A novel triphenylamine based fluorescent probe,TPAO,was synthesized through condensation reaction. The probe exhib-its a pronounced solvent-induced discolouration effect in organic solvents. The correlation between the solvent-induced color change of TPAO and polarity was determined using the empirical parameter ET(30)method.Based on the high sensitivity of TPAO to po-larity,water was detected in eight organic solvents with detection limits as low as 0.0015%(v/v,1,4-dioxane),0.0016%(v/v,tet-rahydrofuran),0.0066%(v/v,acetone),0.016%(v/v,DMF),0.043%(v/v,DMSO),0.0043%(v/v,acetonitrile),0.0040%(v/v,ethanol),0.014%(v/v,methanol).Moreover,TPAO was successfully employed for determining the alcohol contents in Chinese Baijius.
