Effects of Zengsheng Baiyulu decoction on radiation-induced oral mucositis in rats
OBJECTIVE To investigate the preventive effect and mechanism of Zengsheng Baiyulu decoction(ZBD)on radiation-induced oral mucositis in rats.METHODS In this study,50 male SD rats of SPF grade were selected. All rats received 25Gy X-ray radiation once on their head and neck except for 10 rats in the blank group. The next day,the rats were treated by intragastric administration of drugs for 10 days, once daily. The general condition, body weight and changes in buccal mucosa were recorded. After treatment, cardiac blood was collected and killed.Buccal mucosa tissues were collected for the detection of relevant inflammatory factors, proteins, genes and pathology. After treatment, cardiac blood was collected and killed, and buccal mucosa tissues were collected for the detection of relevant inflammatory factors, proteins, genes and pathology.RESULTS The rats in the ZBD group were generally in good condition, with minimal reduction in body mass and a mild degree of oral mucositis. The levels of IL-1β,IL-6,IL-10 and TNF-α and the expressions of IL-1β and TNF-α,p-IKBα and p-NF-κB in buccal mucosa were upregulated, while the levels of EGF,VEGF and bFGF were increased in buccal mucosa.CONCLUSION ZBD has been demonstrsted to be an effective treatment for inflammatory symptoms of oral mucosa as well as for the repair of buccal mucosa in irradiated rats. The mechanism of action may be related to the inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway and the promotion of growth factors.
