Effects of lentinan on improving myocardial hypertrophy with acute myocardial ischemia in mice
OBJECTIVE To study the effects of lentinan on myocardial hypertrophy with acute ischemia in mice.METHODS A mice model of myocardial hypertrophy with acute ischemia was established by administering isoproterenol subcutaneously at a dose of 2 mg·kg-1 per day for 14 days, followed by two additional subcutaneous injections of 50 mg·kg-1per day.Concurrently, the mice were given 25 mg·kg-1 lentinan once a day by gavage for 16 days. After administration, electrocardiograms were recorded, and serum myocardial enzyme profile and renal function indexes were detected. The organs were weighed individually, and the corresponding organ indices were calculated.HE staining of the heart apex was used for histopathological examination.Levels of energy substances in myocardial tissues were measured.RESULTS Compared to the model group, lentinan improved the abnormalities of electrocardiogram, reversed the abnormalities of heart, spleen, lung, and thymus indices, improved the abnormalities of myocardial enzyme profiles and renal function indices, reduced cardiac pathological changes, and increased creatine phosphate level.CONCLUSION Lentinan has good preventive and therapeutic effects on myocardial hypertrophy associated with acute myocardial ischemia, which may be related to the improvement of myocardial energy material reserves.
