Studies on the Large-scale Artificial Breeding Technique of Pacific Oyster "Haida No.2"
This study dealt with the large-scale reproduction of a new Pacific oyster variety "Haida No.2" by artificial breeding. After enriching choice of golden shell color and being cultured in artificial heating water till sexual maturity, parental oysters were stimulated by drying and heating water in order to collect mature sperms and ova.Comparative experiments of hatching were carried out to make sure that the larvae developed into eye-spot stage smoothly.Larval density should be maintained sensibly and food of single-celled algae should be fresh and pollution free so that the breeding was managed scientifically.Shells of Chlamys farreri adhered to base, metamorphosis rate of the eye-larvae reached 48%.Ultimately,the total number of juvenile with shell height over 0.5mm reached 468 million and the production per cubic meter was about 30-104,which signified the success of large-scale reproduction of Pacific oyster "Haida No.2".Comparative experiments of parental oysters cultivation and development of larvae were carried out in this study.Parental oysters of "Haida No.2" turned out to be slower in maturing than ordinary ones, but larvae of " Haida No.2" gained significant advantages in growth speed and survival rate, which confirmed the superiority of this new oyster variety.
