Protecting and revitalizing historical and cultural heritage and realizing its green,healthy and safe development are important research topics in China.By introducing the concept of"resilient city",we analyze the core problems faced by China's historical and cultural districts in their renewal,and explore how to maintain the cultural characteristics and economic vitality of historical and cultural districts in the face of natural disasters,social changes and other uncertainties.The renewal of Huai'an Imperial Wharf Historical and Cultural Districts implements the theories of the five characteristics and four dimensions of a resilient city,and addresses the issues of renewal and sustainable development from a completely new perspective.We also explore how to build a resilient historical and cultural districts that is able to withstand various risks and has self-recovery and self-adaptation capabilities.Using the concept of resilient city to establish a scientific mechanism,to optimize the space of the neighbourhood,to update the mix of industries,to integrate into the smart city,to upgrade the infrastructure and a series of other specific strategies and methods to fully mobilize its own resources,to reorganize the system structure,and to realize the sustainability of the regeneration of the historical and cultural districts,with a view to providing insights for the planners and policy makers of the historical and cultural districts.
