Optimization Path and Analysis on Traditional Street and Lane Space Characteristics in Ancient Towns Under the Influence of Urbanization Process:A Case Study of Xinchang Ancient Town in Shanghai
To investigate the spatial characteristics of traditional street networks in the context of urbanization in Shanghai's Xinchang Ancient Town,we employ space syntax analysis.By constructing an axial map model and conducting a feature analysis of intelligibility, integration, and depth,we quantitatively examine the spatial configuration and the distribution of public nodes within the ancient town.Despite the modernization of spatial morphology driven by urbanization, the overall spatial characteristics and historical-cultural values of the ancient town have not been adequately preserved.Consequently, the spatial vitality of traditional street networks has been somewhat compromised.Based on these results, the protection and development of the ancient town require a deeper exploration of the historical and cultural significance of its traditional street networks, alongside the pursuit of more effective strategies for conservation and renewal, aiming to achieve a balance between historical-cultural preservation and modernization.
