A Study on the Educational Methods in Plato's Laws?
The Laws is Plato's important educational work, and the way of education is an important component of education in the Laws.Through the Athenians,Plato divided the objects of education into two categories, that is,the rulers of the minority and the ordinary citizens of the majority. Then, according to the different objects,he divided the educational methods into two categories, that is,the rational education for the former and the mythological education for the latter. As far as the two educa-tional methods are concerned,Plato paid more attention to mythology, because the city-state constructed by the Laws is the sec-ond-best city-state,rather than an ideal state dominated by philosophers. However, myth and reason are not completely dichot-omous,they have a commonality, which is reflected not only in the ability of the people to be rational, but also in the fact that they both adhere to their limits.
