The Relationship Among Experiences of Abuse and Neglect,Personality and Executive Function:A Latent Profile-based Analysis
Based on an individual-centered approach, the potential categories of individuals experiencing abuse and neglect,as well as their mechanisms of interaction with different personalities and executive functions were explored.A survey of 503 college students through convenience sampling was conducted using the psychological abuse and neglect scale, the brief big five personality inventory, and the brief executive function scale. The results indicated that there were distinct potential types of abuse and neglect, which could be divided into 3 types,i.e.,low abuse-neglect(48.9%),medium abuse-neglect(33.8%),and high abuse-neglect(17.3%).Individuals with different types of abuse and neglect had significant predictive effects on personality and executive function. Both medium and high abuse-neglect types had significant and positive predictive effects on neuroticism. Both moderate and high abuse-neglect types significantly negatively predicted rigor, pleasantness, openness, and extraversion(P<0.01).Personalities,including neuroticism, rigor, pleasantness, openness, and extraversion, played mediating roles between different abuse-neglect types and executive function(95%CI all excluding 0).In conclusion, abusive neglect types are heterogeneous and can be categorized into 3 types. Moreover, personality could mediate the relationship between individuals with different abusive neglect types and executive function.
