Effect of Best Possible Self-imagination on the Recognition of Neutral Facial Expression
This paper explored the effect of the best possible self-imagination on the recognition of neutral facial expression.Fifty-six college students were collected to participate in the study and were randomly divided into an experimental group(BPS group)and a control group. The experimental group underwent 30 minutes of best possible self-imagination and wrote down the relative content. The control group were asked to recall and wrote down the events happened in the past week within 30 minutes. After the intervention, the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)and the Negative Affect(NA)scores in the experimental group were significantly decreased but their Positive Affect(PA)scores were remarkably increased. The emotional valence of neutral faces in both of the experimental group and the control group increased significantly after the intervention. The results indicated that the best possible self-imagination could effectively enhance the positive emotion of individuals and promote a more positive perception of neutral faces.
