As a continuation and aftermath of the Water Margin story,The Sequel to Water Margin portrays a series of female images,inheriting and developing from those in the original Water Margin.Although they are not the main focus of The Sequel to Water Margin,the attitudes of the Water Margin heroes towards these female char-acters to some extent reflect the societal views on women during that time,as well as the author's perspective.A-midst the clash between old and new cultures,there are contradictions in the author's chastity view.
