Color,Space and Physical Anxiety——On the Theme of The Golden Notebook
Although Doris Lessing's representative work The Golden Notebook has entered the ranks of British literary classics, the most prominent issue of color in the novel has not received sufficient attention from the aca-demic community.Lessing's choice of black, red, yellow, blue and gold is a spatial representation of modern soci-ety.The body,as the origin, purpose, and endpoint of space, participated in Lessing's construction of modern space. The novel is not confined to a single theme, but rather uses color, space and physical anxiety as the core to depict the characteristics of the entire era in a three-dimensional manner.
