Detection of Cd in Sludge Anaerobic Digestion and Its Inhibition on Biogas Production
In order to study the effect of heavy metal Cd on methane production of sludge anaerobic digestion, the detection and removal rules of Cd in sludge treatment system and the effect of Cd on methane production of sludge anaerobic digestion were analyzed by controlling the concentration of Cd in the sequencing batch reactor. The results indicate that graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry can effectively measure the concentration of Cd in sludge, and the initial concentration of Cd affects its removal efficiency.Cd concentrations exceeding 1.0 mg·L-1 inhibited methane production in sludge anaerobic digestion, with the lowest methane yield recorded at 77.9 mL·g-1.Cd reduced the hydrolysis of organic matter in sludge anaerobic digestion, and the maximum values of soluble COD and volatile fatty acids(VFA)in the group exposed to 5.0 mg·L-1 Cd were 1 455 mg·L-1 and 794 mg·L-1,lower than the control group.Furthermore, high concentrations of Cd also reduced the sludge reduction rate to 24.5%,increasing the difficulty of subsequent sludge treatment.
