Study on the Influence of Dry-wet Cycle on the Water Holding Properties of Silty Clay
Taking silty clay as the research object, pressure plate experiments were carried out under different wet and dry cycles to study the effects of wet and dry cycles on the water holding characteristics of soil.Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)was used to measure the pore size distribution in the soil to analyze the mechanism of dry-wet cycling on the water holding property of the soil. The experimental results show that the saturated volume of the sample decreases and the dry volume increases slightly with the increase of the number of dry-wet cycles. The volume change range after drying and saturation decreases, and the water holding capacity of the sample decreases. The results of NMR showed that the pores of silty clay samples had a bimodal structure. With the increase of wet-dry cycles, the proportion of macropores increased, and the water holding capacity decreased. Two water-holding models were used to fit the test results, and the goodness of fit R2 was greater than 0.99.
