At present, there is an international consensus on the importance of enhancing non-cognitive abilities among adolescents, while a long-standing urban-rural disparity exists in the development of non-cognitive abilities among adolescents in China. This study focused on the prevalent issue of visual health among adolescents and employed the framework of the Big Five personality traits.Utilizing data from the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 waves of the China Education Panel Survey(CEPS),this research used the difference-in-differences method and propensity score matching difference-in-differences method to assess the impact of myopia on adolescent personality traits between the two survey periods, and explored the urban-rural differences therein. The analysis revealed that,on the whole, myopia exerted a significant negative effect on extraversion and agreeableness,a significant positive effect on neuroti-cism,and no significant effect on openness and conscientiousness.Furthermore,"myopia personality"was highlighted by a significant decrease in extraver-sion and agreeableness among urban students, and a significant increase in neuroticism among rural students. This study also speculated on the possible causes of these phenomenon, and put up countermeasures such as timely monitoring of students'visual health, focusing on urban myopic students'school activity participation, and effectively caring for rural myopic students'internal emotional experiences.
