Research of flow past wind-assisted rotor based on overlap grid
Wind-assisted rotor is widely applied in practical engineering, but previous studies mostly focus on low Reynolds number and single cylinder. In this paper, flow past two cylinders in tandem arrangement at subcritical Reynolds number is studied based on the overlapping grid technique,in order to find the optimal velocity ratio to realize the auxiliary propulsion of the vehicle. The results show that the lateral force generated by the rotating cylinder can provide auxiliary power for the vehicle. However, when the rotational speed is relatively large, the difference of the transverse force between the upstream and downstream cylinders is pronounce, which is detrimental to the heading stability of the vehicle. To elimin-ate this adverse effect, the downstream cylinders need a larger rotational speed ratio to balance this torque. With the increase of the velocity ratio, the wake structure of the rotating cylinder switches from alternating shedding to no obvious vortex shed-ding,and the influence of the upstream cylinder on the downstream cylinder is gradually weakened.
