Experimental research on the slamming load of ship with large bow flare
The slamming load has a significant impact on the structure and navigation safety of ships.Model tests were conducted to study the characteristics of the slamming load of a ship with large bow flare.A rigid ship model and a segmented elastic ship model were used to carry out experiments of the slamming load for a ship with large bow flare at different wave heights in towing tank. The influence of ship model stiffness on the measurement results of slamming pressure was analyzed. When the wave height is small, the difference in slamming pressure results obtained from the rigid body ship model and segmented elastic ship model tests is not significant. When the wave height is high, the slamming pressure obtained from the rigid ship model test is larger than that obtained from the elastic ship model test. The distribution of slamming pressure at different positions of segmented elastic ship models was also studied. When a slamming occurs, the closer to the bow of the ship, the greater the slamming load, and the closer to the bottom of the ship, the greater the slamming load.
