Fatigue tests for typical welded joints of aluminum alloy
In order to provide a reasonable assessment for the fatigue strength of ship hull structures built up by alumin-um alloy, typical welded joints of 5083 aluminum alloy ship structures are designed, and fatigue tests are performed on the two kinds of specimens, standard specimens and full-scale specimens respectively.Based on the fatigue test outcomes of the standard specimens, representative P-S-N curves are established specifically for longitudinal weld joints.A comparative ana-lysis is then undertaken against the International Institute of Welding(ⅡW)standard, revealing a marginal 4.32%disparity between the experimental and standard curve fatigue life predictions.Furthermore, the fatigue test results obtained from full-scale specimens served as a crucial validation tool, substantiating the rationality of the chosen standard curve. This valida-tion process contributes valuable insights to the assessment of fatigue strength in aluminum alloy ship structures within the broader scope of structural integrity analysis.
