The Ex-situ Conservation and Grouping-Farming of Endangered Alpine Musk Deer
The musk deer (Moschus spp.) is well known for the musk secreted by the adult males,and is endangered.Domestication is an important method for ex situ protection and musk production of endangered musk deer,which had been adopted since 1958,and the main farmed species being Forest musk deer (M.berezovskii).Alpine musk deer (Moschus sifanicus) domestication had started in Gansu Province since 1990.In this paper,the group-farming of endangered Alpine musk deer is reported,and the selection of farm site,the construction of farm and enclosures,and the managing system are discussed.Groupfarming of Alpine musk deer can be developed and popularized to conserve endangered Alpine musk deer and produce musk sustainably.
