From Tradition to Modernity:A Retrospective and Prospect of Survey and Research Methods Since the Reform and Opening Up
Since the reform and opening up,survey research has received high attention,and various survey methods have developed rapidly in practice,from disciplinary reconstruction to the introduction of Western survey and statistical techniques.China's survey research methods have gained valuable experience in the process of moving from tradition to modernity,but there are also a series of problems such as incomplete learning of Western statistical methods,survey statistics being detached from the masses and reality,one-sided pursuit of so-called"value neutrality",and lack of clear methodological guidance.To construct a modern system of investigation and research methods in the new era,it is necessary to combine the fine traditions of the Party's investigation and research,Western investigation and statistical methods,and modern information technology.We must adhere to the fine tradition of field investigation,immerse ourselves in the"field",conduct field investigations deep into the masses and grassroots,and understand Chinese society through direct face-to-face contact with the respondents.To promote the combination of field investigation and statistical investigation,based on China's national conditions,to achieve complementary advantages and comprehensive application;To scientifically apply online surveys and big data,fully integrate online surveys and big data,innovate data collection and analysis methods,construct a modern survey and research method system that keeps pace with the times,and form China's academic paradigm and language system in the new situation of international survey and research method changes.
