The effect of Baduanjin combined with blood flow restriction training on senile sarcopenia
Objective To observe the effects of Baduanjin combined with blood flow restriction training on muscle strength, physical fitness, and daily living ability of senile patients with sarcopenia. Methods A total of 126 elderly sarcopenia patients, enrolled between January 2021 to December 2022,were divided into two groups by a random numbers table method, with 63 patients in each group. The control group received conventional treatment for sarcopenia, while the observation group underwent combined flow restriction training in addition to the control group's treatment. Both groups were intervened for 12 weeks.Skeletal muscle mass index(SMI,ASMI),muscle grip strength, simple physical ability test(SPPB)and modified Barthel index(MBI)were used to assess muscle activity function and daily living ability(Barthel index). Results Before intervention, there was no significant difference in grip strength between the observation group and the control group(t=0.331,P=0.741).After intervention, the muscle strength of both groups significantly increased, and there was a significant difference in grip strength between the observation group and the control group(t=3.993,P=0.000),with the observation group being the most prominent. There was no significant difference in grip strength,SMI,and ASMI before intervention between the two groups(P>0.05);After intervention, grip strength,SMI,and ASMI significantly increased in both groups, and the observation group had significantly higher Barthel index score,SPPB score,SMI,and ASMI than the control group(t=6.064,3.261,2.770,5.860,P<0.001).Conclusion The combination of Baduanjin and Blood Flow Restriction Training shows positive effects in treating sarcopenia in elderly patients. It effectively enhances muscle mass to some extent and contributes to improving patients'daily activity quality.
