Study on the prevalence and correlation of thyroid nodules in a healthy population undergoing medical check-ups
Objective This research aims to explore the prevalence of thyroid nodules in a healthy population undergoing medical check-ups in Hangzhou city and analyze the associated influencing factors. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 9,288 individuals who underwent medical examinations at our hospital between January 2023 and October 2023.The assessment included five basic components:thyroid ultrasound, biochemistry, complete blood count, and thyroid function tests. Results The prevalence of thyroid nodules in the healthy population was remarkably high at 60.33%,with rates of 49.46%in males and 71.53%in females and there were significant differences in the prevalence of thyroid nodules in different genders(χ2=472.418,P<0.05).The incidence of thyroid nodules increased with age,and females exhibited a higher prevalence across all age groups(χ2=22.050,118.625,26.985,186.154,P<0.001).Women aged 50 and above were identified as a high-risk demographic for thyroid nodules.Female gender, age,BMI were recognized as risk factors for thyroid nodules(OR=2.846,1.822,1.052,95%CI=2.502~3.237,1.714~1.937,1.030~1.074,P<0.001).Conclusion The study highlights the high prevalence of thyroid nodules in the healthy population undergoing medical check-ups,particularly among older females who are at a higher risk. The identified influencing factors can inform the development of targeted health education programs to promote early prevention and treatment of thyroid nodules.
