Rationality of Total Parenteral Nutrition Regimens for Cancer Patients in a Hospital
Objective To assess the rationality of enteral nutrition solutions used in oncology patients at a hospital in order to improve the quality of their clinical application and provide data for rational use of enteral nutrition. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the enteral nutrition solutions administered to inpatients of oncology between 2020 and 2021,involving indications, varieties, energy composition, ingredient ratios, and stability. Results A total of 1016 prescriptions for enteral nutrition were collected.Despite the proper overall design of administration plans, such problems as insufficient or excessive calorie provision, inappropriate nitrogen-to-calorie ratios, imbalanced sugar and lipid ratios,exces-sive electrolyte concentrations, and improper selection of varieties were identified. Conclusion To enhance the rationality of enteral nutrition solutions,a hospital should develop personalized nutrition plans.Addi-tionally,pharmacists need to improve their ability to review enteral nutrition prescriptions, attach impor-tance to assessment of prescriptions, and facilitate communication with clinical physicians to improve the level of rational applications of enteral nutrition solutions.
