Drug Utilization by Chinese Peacekeeping Medical Detachment to South Sudan
Objective To analyze drug utilization by peacekeeping medical detachments during their missions in order to provide data for future drug procurement for peacekeeping medical teams.Methods According to the New Pharmacology(17th edition),the drugs used within their designated areas were classified according to pharmacological effects while the types,amounts,total consumption sum and defined daily dose system of drugs consumed were analyzed to find out more about the need for drugs.Results In terms of drug utilization sums,anti-infective drugs,orthopedic drugs,and those for the cardiovas-cular system,digestive system and central nervous system accounted for a relatively high proportion.In terms of defined daily dose systems,antimalarial drugs ranked first,followed by antipyretic and analgesic drugs,antiallergic drugs,antibiotics,proton pump inhibitors,and hypotensive drugs.Conclusion A good under-standing of the usage of drugs in peacekeeping missions will help medical teams to prepare the right drugs in the future,effectively reduce the waste of drug resources and save peacekeeping funds.
