Since 2009,the state health administrative departments have issued a series of laws and regulations,selected and adjusted multiple editions of the essential medicine list,and preliminarily estab-lished essential medicine systems,which has played a significant role in improving the drug supply in China.Along with the healthcare reform,the needs of the general public for medicines have also changed drastically.Other related policies for the drug supply system have been successively promulgated and implemented,but the system for essential medicines is facing many problems and challenges.The establishment and implementation of essential medicine systems since the start of healthcare reform in 2009 were reviewed,the status quo and problems were analyzed,and corresponding countermeasures for the optimization and adjustment of the system were put forward in this paper.
