Early Clinical Problem-based Learning:Exploration of a New Teaching Approach in Clinical Practices of Pharmacology
Objective To construct a new teaching approach in pharmacology-related practices, known as early clinical problem-based learning(EC-PBL)and intended to enhance students'clinical think-ing and practical skills. Methods By designing cases for practicing EC-PBL,students were asked to engage in group discussions on medical issues, including analysis of drug applications.Timely feedback and evalua-tion were provided to assess the teaching effect. Results EC-PBL could effectively stimulate students'thinking about health care issues, and help them to better understand and apply what had been learned.Students were more satisfied with this approach than with traditional teaching methods, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion The EC-PBL model provides a new approach to teach-ing pharmacology by highlighting the ability to solve real problems and to think critically.
