Usage of Oral Chinese Patent Medicines and Review of Prescriptions in the Outpatient Department of a Military Hospital
Objective To investigate the use of oral Chinese patent medicines among outpatients in order to provide references for rational drug use in the clinic.Methods Prescriptions for oral Chinese patent medicines given by the outpatient department in 2023 were randomly selected before the data on dosage forms,sources of prescriptions,combinations of drugs,and the top 20 drugs used was collected.Results The dosage forms were primarily capsules and tablets.The biggest source of prescriptions was the Department of Emergency,followed by the Department of Orthopedics,Department of Cardiology,the outpatient clinic,and Department of Respiratory Medicine.Tenghuangjiangu Tablets,Lianhuaqingwen granules,and Qianglipipa liquid were among the most frequently prescribed medicines.The most com-mon issue identified was inappropriate prescriptions,followed by substandard and off-label prescriptions.Conclusion The use of oral Chinese patent medicines in the outpatient department is sometimes irrational,so more regulation is needed to promote rational drug use.
