Intravenous Admixture Preparation Errors and Safety Management in Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Service
Objective To explore the role of refined management in reducing intravenous admixture preparation errors(IAPEs)in pharmacy intravenous admixture service(PIVAS).Methods 13 522 prescriptions from the PIVAS,managed under routine safety protocols between 2021 and 2021,were selected as the control group while another 13 408 prescriptions managed under refined management from July 2022 to June 2023 were chosen as the observation group. The incidence of IAPEs,staff compliance with safety protocols, costs of drug wastage, and bacterial colony counts in the air and on workbench surfaces were compared. Results After refined management, the incidence of IAPEs significantly decreased, especially in error rates across various stages and in drug wastage costs(P<0.05).The compliance of staff with cleaning, disinfection, and operating standards increased, resulting in a significant reduction in bacterial colony counts in the air and workbenches in the clean zone(P<0.05).Conclusion Optimizing the workflow of PIVAS and strengthening the safety management can improve the working efficiency of PIVAS,reduce the occurrence of IAPEs,and improve the safety of the working environment.
