Research on the Impact of Developing Digital Trade on Trade Costs between China and RCEP Partner Countries
Digital trade with digital services as the core and digital platform as the carrier has become a new engine of in-ternational trade transactions, which not only makes innovations in mode of trade, but also plays a positive role in reducing trade costs. This paper measures the development level of digital trade in RCEP partner countries through computing entropy value from 2008 to 2021,and the bilateral trade costs between China and RCEP partner countries are measured using the trade cost measurement model.Furthermore, the effect of the former on the latter is empirically studies based on the gravity model. It is found that:the level of digital trade development in RCEP partner countries has increased year by year but the gap between them has gradually widened.Except for Malaysia, the bilateral trade costs between RCEP countries and China show a fluctuat-ing downward trend. The rise in the level of digital trade development in RCEP partner countries has a significant effect on lowering bilateral trade costs between them and China, and the conclusions are still valid after both endogeneity and robustness test.It is suggested that China should strengthen all-round cooperation with RCEP partner countries in digital trade, and ac-tively create security rules for digital flows in RCEP region, relying on the development of digital trade in them.
