Ideographicization-through-deformation refers to a phenomenon in the development and evolution of ancient Chinese characters,where certain character forms are intentionally modified to other similar forms whose meanings are closer to their semantic meanings.In comparison to phonographicization-through-deformation,the ideographicization-through-deformation was paid little attention in the academic community.The present paper revealed the ideographicization-through-deformation in the form evolution of characters such as 辤(ci),牖(you),宝(bao),皷(gu),and筋(jin),and described different types and the characteristics of Ideographicization-through-deformation to gain scholarly interest in this field for further exploration of more examples and characteristics.
