The collection of Ruan Ji's poems and writings edited by Chen Dewen and Fan Qin was regarded as the earliest existing collection of Ruan Ji's works, which was of important value in Chinese literature.Chen Dewen also creatively proposed Fafen Theory when commenting on Ruan Ji's works, emphasizing Ruan Ji's frustration with the decline of the Wei Dynasty and his emotional attachment to poetry.Chen Dewen's revelation of Ruan Ji's aesthetic psychology provides strong theoretical support for understanding the aesthetic characteristics in Ruan's poetry, especially when comparing Ruan's poetry with the Retrograde School in the Ming Dynasty. With the widespread circulation of the collections edited by Fan Qin and Chen Dewen,Chen Dewen exerted a profound impact on the criticism history of Ruan's poetry.First,in the debate over the authenticity of Ruan's poetry during the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Chen Dewen's Fafen Theory was regarded as theoretical resources and has promoted the development of Ruan's poetry criticism.Secondly,Chen Dewen applied the Thought of Loyalty and Frustration into the analysis of Ruan Ji's Letter to Quan Jin,which stimulated later poets and critics to further interpret Ruan's poetry by way of referring to the annotations of the Five Ministers while expressing the dissatisfaction with the old annotations by Yan Yanzhi,Shen Yue,Li Shan, etc. It can be seen that Chen Dewen played an important role in the history of Ruan Ji's criticism.
