How the construction of free trade zones affects coordi-nated regional development——Optimization or weakening?
As an important platform for international economic cooperation and development,free trade zones play an irreplaceable role in promoting coordinated regional development.Taking the establishment of China's free trade zones as a quasi-natural experiment,based on the panel data of 270 cities at the prefecture level and above from 2011 to 2022,this paper quantitatively investigates the impact of the construction of free trade zones on co-ordinated regional development using a multi-time-point differential model.Research has found that as a na-tional institutional center,free trade zones have significantly reduced regional development gaps and promoted regional coordinated development;Free trade zones can promote coordinated regional development through five mechanisms:government,market,opening,finance,and rule of law;As a new quality productive force,digital economy can integrate various elements of the free trade area and better play its role in promoting the policy effi-ciency of the free trade area.Further research has found that the construction of free trade zones has a certain spatial spillover effect,which varies significantly with distance.The research conclusion is of great significance for deep-ening the policy promotion and construction of free trade zones,and stimulating the potential of free trade zones.
