M1 68 is one of the five large tombs at the Zaoshulin cemetery, with a total of 123 grave goods made of bronze, pottery, jade, lead, and tin.Inscriptions of"Zeng Hou Bao"were found on ritual bronze vessels such as ding, gui,fu,fou, and chime bells, confirming that the occupant of Tomb M168 was Marquis Bao of Zeng.Based on the characteristics of the grave goods and bronze inscriptions,we propose that the tomb M168 dates to the early to late stages of the middle Spring and Autumn period, approximately between 650 and 623 BC.Through the combination of unearthed artifacts from the burial and those known to have been looted, the composition of grave objects in M168 can be determined, which offers new materials for studying the burial customs of the vassal kings during the mid-Spring and Autumn period. The grave goods in M168 demonstrate characteristics of both Zhou and Chu cul-tures,which are important for studying cultural exchanges and integration among the Zeng,Chu,and Zhou states.
