The pitch system of chime bells of Marquis De of Zeng is the six notes and eighteen pitches of ♭E key,and the primary notes are zhi(sol)-yu(la)-gong(do)-shang(re)-jiao(mi)-he(fa).It can also be regarded as the collection of five primary notes of ♭E key and ♭A key. Therefore, the he note of ♭E key appears, which is an important part of the sequence of chime bells of the Zeng State.By referring to the sound data of other chime-bells in the mid-Spring and Autumn period,it is speculated that the devel-opment of the music function of chime bells, which can also be interpreted as a kind of modulation, makes the tone series appear as a collection of different keys, resulting in another note besides the five primary notes. The tone series of chime bells of Marquis De of Zeng provides a clue for exploring the formation process of chime bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng's 12-tone temperament.
