A special title is noticed in bronze inscriptions,namely"Zi Mou"or"Zi Mou Mou".It oc-curred in several contexts,including(1)"Chu Zi Mou(Mou)楚子某(某)";(2)"Qu Zi Mou Mou屈子某某;(3)"Wei Zi Mou薳子某(某);and(4)other combinations of"Zi Mou(Mou)".The present paper,by examining the use of"Zi Mou 子某"in Zuo Zhuan(Commentary of Zuo),proposes that"Zi"in bronze inscriptions refers to the identity of a person while"Mou(Mou)"to the forename or style name of the person.
