Due to the taphonomic environment with acid soil,the fauna remains from archaeologi-cal sites were poorly preserved in most cases,which brings great challenges to the identification and greatly restricts the zooarchaeological work and research in South China.Considering this kind of preservation situation,based on previous experience,we initially propose the collecting process and protocol:"on-site intervention,making clear the four boundaries of bone remains,surface reinforce-ment,and collecting on the pallet(or in box)".Relevant identification features and methods should be paid more attention as well.In this way,the taxon and elements of animals could be better identified,so as to frame the research of utilization of animal resources and so on,and to provide clues and foundation for the subsequent multidisciplinary archaeological research.
