Considerable scholarly attention has been paid to the separated casting method of Shang and Zhou bronze artifacts. However, how bronze artifacts were cast in the Han Dynasty has been insuffi-ciently understood.Numerous bronze artifacts have been unearthed from the Han tombs in Hepu of Guangxi Autonomous Region, with ding-tripods being a common type of artifact. We have confirmed that the separated casting technique produced the two artifacts by examining the craftsmanship of two early Western Han ding using X-ray imaging,DR imaging, and CT scans. We further discussed the rela-tionship between the craftsmen's technical choices and the artistic designs.
