The Chengdu Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology excavated the"Gangzheng"locality of the Jinsha site from 2002 to 2003.A total of 44 tombs were discovered, all of which were vertical earthen pit burials with the deceased interred in an extended supine position.Only M258 re-vealed traces of a boat coffin, indicating the presence of a burial container. All tombs contained only a few burial goods, mainly pottery vessels such as pointed-bottom vessels,flat-bottomed jars, and gui-shaped vessels. Some tombs also contained grinding stones and jade strips. The tombs were divided into early and late phases, with the early phase dating to the end of the Shang Dynasty and the beginning of the Zhou Dynasty, while the late phase dates to the middle to late Western Zhou period. This excava-tion provided important archaeological data for understanding burial customs and social differentiation in the late Shang and early Zhou periods on the Chengdu Plain.
