In September 1997,the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and other units cleaned up six Jin Dynasties brick tombs on the north side of the square in front of Nanchang Railway Station, roughly dating from the late Western Jin Dynasty to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, among which the brick altar in tomb M5 is very unique but has not attracted the attention of excavators and later researchers.Based on the presence/absence of the dead in the tomb, the nature of the brick altar, and the formation of the sacrificial space, this paper suggests that M5 is likely an example of soul-conjuring burial in the Jin Dynasties. The soul of the tomb owner resides on the western side of the altar(couch),while offerings such as lacquer trays, lacquer multi-compartment boxes, and celadon boxes are placed on the eastern side to commemorate the tomb owner.
