Production Techniques of Inscriptions on the Shang and Zhou Bronze Vessels and Related Issues
This paper focuses on the production techniques of inscriptions on bronze vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties.It systematically reviews the general methods for creating various types of inscriptions,emphasizing the techniques for producing interior wall inscriptions.Current scholarly discussions on the production of interior wall inscriptions can be categorized into two main methods:the piece-molding method and the casting method.This paper outlines these two approaches'specific classifications and fundamental aspects,conducting a feasibility analysis of the proposed hypotheses based on theoretical and archaeological evidence.It concludes that simpler inscriptions may have been produced using a single hard piece-molding method,while more complex inscriptions suggest the widespread use of the additive modeling technique.
