The Shifo Temple site in Jiangjin,Chongqing,is a significant archaeological discovery of grotto temples in the Sichuan-Chongqing region. It is one of the few medium-sized grotto temples completely exposed in China, comprising areas for architectural foundations, rock structures, cliff sculptures, burial sites, and a sanctuary for released animals.Over 40 inscriptions and epitaphs from the Song to the Ming and Qing dynasties have been unearthed, including tombstones for monks and laymen, inscriptions commemorating sculptures, memorial stones, and steles.Notably, the Southern Song inscriptions play a crucial role in reconstructing the temple's history and addressing issues related to the temple management systems, the monastic regulations, and temple economies.
