The Erligang Culture period was an important stage in the emergence and development of bronze-imitated pottery.Influenced by the bronze culture, potters made pottery by modifying attach-ments or decorative beast-face motifs, resulting in bronze-imitated pottery. This pottery encompasses nearly all types of ceramics, with similar functions and uses;however, its forms differ significantly from bronze ritual vessels, indicating that the use of bronze-imitated pottery does not necessarily serve as a maker of burial status.By Phase Ⅳ of the Erligang Cultural period, the distribution of bronze-imitated pottery contracted due to the constraints of the bronze ritual system, leading to a gradual simplification and eventual disappearance of beast-face motifs.Consequently, the decline of bronze-imitated pottery was inevitable. Thus, there is a fundamental distinction between bronze-imitated pottery of the Erligang culture and bronze-imitated ritual vessels that emerged during Phase Ⅳ of the Yinxu period due to ritual requirements.
