Application and seepage control effectiveness analysis of deep mixing pile cutoff walls in levee reinforcement
Seepage failure is one of the common hazards in levees. To analyze the applicability of deep mixing pile cutoff walls in levee hazard mitigation, this study used the seepage control and reinforcement project of the Donggang Baozhuang weir levee in the Dongfeng Lake floodplain area of the Huaihe River Basin,Anhui Province,as a case example. After a thorough analysis of the causes of leakage, multiple solutions were comprehensively compared, and a multi-head small-diameter deep mixing pile cutoff wall was selected for seepage treatment. The quality of the constructed wall was then tested.Using the two-dimensional stable seepage finite element method, the seepage control effect and seepage patterns of the cutoff wall were further analyzed and discussed through comparisons. The results showed that in the multi-layered shallow levee foundation of Donggang Baozhuang weir, the multi-head,small-diameter deep mixing pile cutoff wall had significant advantages in terms of wall quali-ty,technical conditions, and project cost. The solution was feasible and technically reliable. The semi-enclosed cutoff wall treatment had ideal performance and could be considered as the preferred seepage control measure for the levee foundation. The research findings provided a reference for seepage reinforcement of similar levees in the Huaihe River flood control areas.
