The Medium of"World":Hu Shi's Early Cooperation with The Commercial Press
Hu Shi was highly valued by The Commercial Press(CP)leaders,such as Zhang Yuanji,and was invi-ted to edit the CP World Series.Through this opportunity,CP established a practical cooperative relationship with Hu and even wished Hu to be CP's director of the Compilation Institute.Although Hu did not accept this invitation,he came to Shanghai to inspect CP and put forward some suggestions for improvement.Meanwhile,Hu nominated Wang Yunwu as the director instead of himself,which CP recognized.The close relationship between Hu Shi and CP was thus established,and this cooperation and its subsequent impact are of great sig-nificance to both sides,which is worth exploring.
