On the Intertextuality in Qian Zhongshu's Literary Writings
Well-known in the scholarly communities in China and abroad for his critical works on Chinese classics and traditional literature,Qian Zhongshu is also a great novelist and writer.Like his scholarly works,his liter-ary writings always conduct a rich and brilliant conversation with other writers,bringing Chinese and Western cultures together.For example,Fortress Besieged and several of his short stories constantly engage in compari-sons and appropriations of European works,directly referring or indirectly alluding to other works in Chinese or European,forming a specific style and a unique voice of his own.By examining the different aspects of inter-textuality in his works,we may study his literary writings from the perspective of comparative literature,which will be beneficial in rethinking the whole development of modern Chinese literature.
