Happiness Effect of the Participation of the Basic Medical Insurance System:Theoretical Mechanism and Empirical Test
The basic medical insurance system(BMIS)is an important institutional arrangement for the government to improve people's well-being.This paper takes an empirical test based on CFPS data and shows that residents'participation in BMIS can significantly enhance their perception of happiness. At the subjective level,it can improve their confidence in the future and their subjective social status, and at the objective level,it can increase household savings and consumption expenditures, enhancing the sense of happiness. This effect of the perception of happiness is much more evident in the case of the passive participants, older people, and the low-income group. Therefore,we should continue to improve the coverage of medical insurance, improve policy coordination, and guide the sinking of high-quality medical resources to continuously and steadily improve the sense of happiness of the residents.
