Formation and Operation of the Dalisi System from the Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties
The Dalisi system was a judicial system after the Hanization reform of Emperor Xiaowen. It was a"new Tingwei"system,in which the"three officials"were likely the product of the fusion of the Han Dynasty's Tingwei three officials and the"three capital officials"with grassland tradition.Later,to transform Dalisi into a transactional and professional judicial institution, the Sui Dynasty broke the three-official system and abolished the five-bureau system that matched the nine-minister system. To adapt to the fourth-class-official system, the early Tang Dynasty established a set of checks and balances mechanisms within Dalisi, embodying the integration of nomadic and farming cultures and showing Chinese culture's inclusiveness, development and vitality.
