Impact Mechanism and Effect of Digital Economy on China's Urban Low-carbon Transformation
In the context of the strategic goal of"carbon dioxide peaking and carbon neutrality"and the new era of digital economic development, how the digital economy profoundly affects and promotes the low-carbon transformation of Chinese cities has become a hot topic in academia and industry.Based on the panel data of 273 prefecture-level cities and above in China from 2011 to 2021,this paper uses the SBM-GML estimation method to calculate their low-carbon total factor productivity in China,it constructs a comprehensive index system of prefecture-level digital economy, and analyzes the impact mechanism and effect of the development level of digital economy on the low-carbon transformation of Chinese cities by the means of two-way fixed effect model, intermediary effect model, and adjustment effect model. The results show that:1)The level of digital economy development has a significant positive promotion effect on urban low-carbon transformation, and the promotion effect is more obvious in the central and eastern regions,non-resource-based cities and areas with larger urban scale.2)The impact of digital economy development on urban low-carbon transformation is transmitted through two ways:improving green technology innovation and optimizing industrial structure upgrading.3)Both government intervention and financial development have a significant positive regulatory effect on the digital economy to promote the low-carbon transformation in Chinese cities. Therefore,it is recommended that China vigorously improve the development level of the digital economy, improve the indicator system of urban green technology innovation, give full play to the effect of upgrading the industrial structure, implement the"classification and zoning"government intervention, actively promote the development strategy of green finance, and continuously promote integrative development of digitalization and low-carbonization to help achieve the"dual carbon"goal and high-quality development strategy.
