Based on the invention patent authorization data of China from 2006 to 2020,and taking cities at prefecture level and above as the analysis unit,this paper explored the spatiotemporal pattern characteristics of digital economy innovation in China,revealed its driving mechanism with constructing spatial panel data from the perspective of knowledge production functions using the spatial Durbin model.The study found that:1)Digital economic innovation has increasingly became an important sector in innovation activities,and showed significant spatial imbalance characteristics,as with higher spatial concentration than all innovation activities.2)There was a positive coupling relationship between digital economic innovation and urban innovation capabilities.Central cities in the central and eastern regions were the main force leading digital economic innovation.3)The innovation level of digital economy was affected by the joint effects of innovation factor input and the spatial spillover of innovation activities.Non-mobile elements such as universities and digital infrastructure only promote local digital economic innovation,while which of mobile elements such as knowledge and human capital will spill over to neighboring cities.Based on the conclusions,it puts forward policy recommendations to optimize the regional innovation pattern of China's digital economy,improve the institutional mechanism for the allocation of innovation factors and promote the transformation of innovation achievements into development effectiveness.
