Impact of Smart City Construction on the Resilience of Urban Economy in China
Based on the panel data of 251 prefecture-level cities in China from 2008 to 2021 and taking into account the selective bias of smart city pilot projects, this article uses the progressive difference-in-differences model to test the impact and mechanism of smart city construction on urban economic resilience. It's found that:1)The construction of smart cities can enhance the resilience of the urban economy by improving market vitality, promoting technological innovation, and driving urban digital transformation. Moreover, this result remains robust even after removing various interference samples and replacing multiple regression methods.2)Heterogeneity testing shows that the construction of smart cities can significantly improve the economic resilience of cities with small population size, low financial supply level, and moderate dependence on foreign trade. This conclusion provides empirical support for continuing to promote the construction of smart cities in China and enhancing urban economic resilience.
